Barto Castagnola in Sotogrande: Polo, Performance, and Prestige

Every summer, the lush fields of Sotogrande become the beating heart of European polo. For La Natividad fans, this season is particularly exciting as Bartolomé “Barto” Castagnola joins the elite Amanara team to compete in the prestigious high-goal tournaments of the 2025 Sotogrande International Polo Tournament.

Sotogrande isn’t just a place; it’s a symbol of polo tradition and excellence. Known as the “Los Pinos circuit,” it brings together the world’s most talented players and finest horses for three thrilling tournaments: the Bronze Cup (July 28 – August 2), Silver Cup (August 4 – 16), and Gold Cup (August 18 – 30). Barto will be on the field for all three, playing alongside Nicky Sen (0), Beltrán Laulhé (6), and Lorenzo Chavanne (6), forming the powerful 22-goal Amanara team.

A Strong Start with Amanara

The tournament kicked off with intensity as Amanara reached the final of the Bronze Cup, facing Les Lions Sainte Mesme in a tightly contested match that went into overtime. Although Amanara narrowly missed the win (9-8), Barto’s performance stood out. Not only did he lead with signature precision and speed, but his pony Meta Alegra was awarded AACCP Best Playing Pony of the final — a standout mare from Barto’s impressive string, reflecting the same quality and care he brings to his Cría Chalo horses.

From Cría Chalo to International Glory

Barto’s success in Sotogrande is deeply rooted in his family’s polo legacy. Cría Chalo, the Castagnola family’s breeding operation, has consistently produced world-class ponies that have competed and won on the international stage. While Meta Alegra is not a Cría Chalo pony, she exemplifies the excellence and standards Barto brings to all his horses — a testament to his eye for talent and dedication to the sport. Behind every match, there is the quiet work of La Natividad’s support system: breeders, grooms, veterinarians, and family.

As the Silver Cup and Gold Cup approach, all eyes remain on Barto. His unique mix of discipline, elegance, and aggression on the field make him one of the most exciting players to watch this season. Representing both Amanara and the spirit of La Natividad, he brings Argentine polo to the global stage with every goal, every ride-off, and every strategic play.

What Makes Sotogrande Special?

Sotogrande is more than polo; it’s an experience. The high-goal tournaments draw top-tier teams, brands, and fans who come to enjoy the sport in one of the most beautiful summer destinations in Europe. From VIP lounges to after-parties and legendary clubhouses, it’s a world where luxury meets tradition.

For players like Barto, it also means an opportunity to test skills against international opponents and bond with teammates in a dynamic environment. Amanara, with its focus on excellence and camaraderie, is a perfect fit.
